What can I say? A lot, nothing--a brief phrase or sentence?  What I will say, first and foremost, is that I haven't seen a finale for a series this good in a while--probably since FMA: Brotherhood (loved that ending, :aww: )

As a series, Korra had so much in it that drew me in: my love for the former series and it's characters--along with the brilliant creators behind it, the breathtaking animation, a female lead character whose realistic and not the usual whiny or wimpy female protagonist that some other series seem to suffer from, for the most part likeable characters, plot depth, pretty new bending moves, an unpredictable plot that kept me glued to it, and the fact that it had so many parallels to one of my favorite periods in history to study--WW II.  I'm a big history buff, and World War II & the Holocaust have always been one of my big focuses--due to the struggles with morality, the despicable side of human nature that was revealed--alongside the perseverance of another, more admirable aspect of human nature to keep up hope against all odds.   WWII is a great example of the test of the strength of human nature, and I love how LoK played with aspects from this period to display both aspects of human nature in this way.  Not often does a series come along that's actually thought provoking.

On to my other comments:  I always love a series that can balance it's comedic moments with its darker, gritter dramatic ones.  There were times where I felt sympathy for the pain a few characters went through (here's looking at you, Tahno), admired character growth for the better (Lin Bei Fong is just plain awesome; she started off being a bit of a stickler with an abrasive personality.  She at first butted heads with Korra, only to develop into a character devoted to protecting those she obviously cared deeply for--showing how much she cared for the officers under her command, to how much she was devoted towards helping out Korra, Tenzin and his family in their cause against Amon and the Equalists---even willing to make an ultimate sacrifice to protect them. She's quite an awesome character, that can't be said enough.  Plus, she reminds a lot of Olivier Armstrong from Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood:D), and the fact that even the villains had reasons to at least be somewhat redeemable (Oh, Tarrlock---how I hated you so, but after getting the gist of your back story, your ties to Amon, and your real driving motives--how could I not drop my utter hatred for your formerly despicable character and at least now admire you--even possibly like you for what you were truly trying to achieve?).

(side note:  It's a hard thing to make a despicable seeming character likeable in my eye, believe me.  Those guys, Mike & Bryan, really know how to turn the tables on that kind of thinking for me...)

Minor issues: romance--I hope they work on getting that leveled out, and maybe not get so tied up in triangles and whatnot.  Um...I'm hoping for more character fleshing out in Book 2.  I'd love some more depth to a lot of the characters (personal back stories, likes/dislikes/passions/you know), as well as seeing more about Korra handling the responsibility of being a fully realized Avatar (That last part wasn't really an issue).

I don't want to go out of my way to post spoilers, cuz I'm not for that, but I leave this entry with a fitting quote from the finale:

"When we hit our lowest point, we are open to the greatest change."
adieu :meow:

Mara G
Artist | Hobbyist | Varied
United States
Appearance: about 5ft 5in. medium length brown hair, dark brown eyes.
Tastes, Preferences, favorites:
I love cats, and have since kindergarten, I love to draw, write and do crafts, be artistic in general, and sing as a hobby.
Currently have: three cats (2 older, one kitten) The big Orange Hairball, Rae Rae (Raven), and the newest addition Pacifica Specter (drat that she turned out to be female, I had to focus on a girl name when I'd settled on Zuko. Pacifica (from the Scrapped Princess) is kind of Zuko like--and this kitten is very sneaky, like a little ghost), & also have four Siamese fighting fish: three males & one female (one halfmoon named Tony, a crowntail named Shuichi (:P), and another male I've name Eiri.

I prefer documentaries to reality TV, and I prefer to like something on my terms. I don't rely on trends, and I cannot like mainstream for just the purpose of mainstream. I hardly listen to mainstream music these days (I have a hard time calling most of what's out there these days music. I have a great interest in learning, keeping an open mind, and holding back judgements until the facts come forward.

Tastes in TV/Movies/Anime....let's see---my ever growing list of favorites: Charmed, Teen Titans, Avatar: the Last Airbender, Bones, Kim Possible, Fruits Basket, Merlin (BBC), Leverage, Legend of Korra, Young Justice Full Metal Panic, Gravitation, Scrapped Princess, Full Metal Alchemist, House MD, Castle, Supernatural, Rizzoli & Isles, Monster, Azumanga Diaoh, Hell Girl (Jigoku Shoujo), Black Cat, Fantastic Children, Medium, Fringe, Escaflowne, Marmalade Boy, Darker Than Black, Primeval, Mai-Hime, Mai Otome, Yami No Matsuei.

Anime I've more recently seen/gotten into:
Last Exile, Eureka-7, Ouran High School Host Club, The Wallflower, Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood, Cowboy Bebop, Trinity Blood, Samurai Shamploo, Galaxy Railways, Wolf's Rain, Solty Rei, XXXHolic, Soul Eater, D.Gray-Man, Kekkaishi, RomeoXJuliet, .

Ah, Nostalgia: Rocket Power, Daria, Hey! Arnold, Rocko's Modern Life, Are You Afraid of the Dark, Fox's Peter Pan, Wild Thornberrys, The Littles, and plenty of others

I'm surprised I didn't put up a literature spot (favorite novels/books). I'm going to fix that!
Authors: David Eddings (Belgariad/Malloreon, Elenium/Tamuli, stand-alone novels), Douglas Adams (esp. for his Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy series)
series: Animorphs (KA Applegate), Night World (L.J. Smith), Forbidden Game (LJ Smith)
general: ghost stories (Sleepy Hollow my favorite fictional story), Holocaust accounts, historical (non)fiction, fantasy, science fiction
(I list mangas under the anime category. A lot of the titles up there--I've checked into (or have gotten) the mangas for)

For movies, animation is tops with the Lion King 1 & 2, The Last Unicorn, and Howl's Moving Castle, with my favorite live action films being Sleepy Hollow [favorite Depp movie], Death Becomes Her, Hocus Pocus, and Ghost (RIP Patrick Swayzee).

My range of music taste covers almost every single genre, with the most focus on Grunge/alternative, rock, and 80s/90s rock and pop [Ace of Base for example]. I do, however, have three in particular that are my all-time favorite groups/bands:
Ace of Base (original and reformed)
Savage Garden (and Darren Hayes as a soloist)
Blessid Union of Souls

AoB is my all-time favorite, and my longest running. Kind of like my real-life version of Nittle Grasper (Gravitation reference, if you really need to know)

Recent music groups/singers/etc I've gotten into:
Adam Lambert, Rupaul, Thriving Ivory

If I ever was asked what my oldest character crush (cartoon, TV, movie, book, etc.) was, I'd say Link from the Legend of Zelda. I cant's say the release of Twilight Princess has done anything to hurt this.

I like animation in general, although I've been steering more towards anime with a lack of good stuff in the States these days.

What I collect: Pullip dolls, BJD dolls [just starting this], favorite TV Show bits [figures, maquettes, that type of thing], cat and fairy figures.

When it comes down to it in literature/TV/movies/etc, I have no issues with yaoi/yuri, although there are a few characters I'm a bit particular with that on. Otherwise I say, if it could work and they can be happy, I'll support it. Sometimes yaoi/yuri pairings can be more interesting than some very canonical pairings (there's not many shippings in Lost I can stand (especially the Kate Triangle, ugh!) but I love the concept of Ben/Jack for some reason. It just works!). Overall, I'm not the biggest shipper in general, since I usually go along with what's canon. The only exception for me are Booth/Brennan (Bones), Angela/Jack (Bones), Helga/Arnold (Hey Arnold), Takumi/Akira (Mai-Hime), YukixShuichi (Gravitation, I should've added this one a while ago, drat my scatter mind sometimes )(additional note: I've been recently getting into a pretty fanon/canon borderline Gravitation coupling, my second to Yuki/Shuichi: Ryuich/Tatsuha. I blame getting deep into some RyuXTats fics for my new love of this one. It's just so sparkly and cute!!!!) and some strong support of one crossover coupling: ZuRae (Zuko/Raven, Avatar/Teen Titans). I wasn't really born a romantic.

Most random trivial facts & concepts:
-Both me and Shuichi Shindou share the same birthday. Weird no? Cool, yes? :P
-Silly me, I liked the color blue long before Raven ever did.
-I'm a cat lover, and Kyo Sohma happens to be a cat.
-Besides being a little temperamental and sarcastic, I also have my left-handedness in common with Eiri Yuki. 8P
-I've compared my personality to Temperance Brennan's on several occasions; she's starting to become an example of who I tend to be a lot of the time. (although I do have my own individuality, thank you :P)
-Can't I be a little angsty like Zuko at times? We have our reasons (what am I actually getting at again? o.O)

As I said---random XP

Favorite Better Than it Sounds explanation for something I love---
The Last Unicorn: A reclusive, unloving hermit is forced to go on a quest to rescue the rest of her kind after a jive-talking butterfly hints that they've been taken prisoner by a lightly carbonated energy drink. Over the course of her adventures, she learns how to love, but eventually gets better.

Current Residence: Central CA
Favourite genre of music: altern/grunge, techno (Ace of Base) Rock in gen.
Favourite style of art: Whatever I'm into at the time
Operating System: OS X 10.5.6 IMAC Leopard
MP3 player of choice: Apple Ipod [don't trust Microsoft products in the least]
Favourite animated characters: Raven [TT], Zuko [Avatar] Ai Enma [Jigoku Shoujo], Tahno, Jinora, Lin Beifong [LoK], Edward Elric [FMA], Helga Pataki [Hey Arnold], Daria [Daria], Eiri Yuki, Shuichi Shindou, Hiroshi Nakano [Gravitation], Kyou Sohma [Fruits Basket], Kaldur [Young Justice]
Live Action Equivalents: Charmed sisters [Piper, Prue, Phoebe, Paige], Temperance Brennan [Bones], Richard Castle [Castle] Dean & Sam Winchester [Supernatural], Walter Bishop (Peter to some extent) [Fringe], Merlin, Gaius [Merlin, BBC], Abby & Connor [BBC Primeval]
Personal Quote:
Nothing in all the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity.
--Martin Luther King, Jr.

Best new quote I've heard recently, especially coming from a fictional source:
"When we hit our lowest point, we are open to the greatest change."
Word we could all learn to live by. What fictitious source could provide such words of wisdom? Why Spirit Aang, of course: from the Legend of Korra episode Endgame

I would like to share your LJ Smith inspired art on Miss Smith's OFFICIAL forum. I am creating a thread on her forum to share fan art pieces from people who are not forum members. She checks this forum herself and I think it would be awesome for her to see the pieces. If I haven't already asked on one of your pieces, I would also like to share the LJ inspired pictures on www.facebook.com/ljsmithfanpage also. All of your copyright info and link to your page will be included in both places!
